Two days ago, Greek media reported that greek police has been arrested 5 suspected members of the fascist group «team epsilon» in the city of Kalamata in Messinia (Peloponnese). The 5 members of this group are accused for for two low-power bomb attacks against the Bank of Greece in Kalamata and the statue of Byzantine Emperor Constantine Palaiologos in Mystras, an historical site near Sparta. The authorities also uncovered the group’s hideout, which was full of explosives, in Kalamata. According to the police, the “Team Epsilon” was preparing for a large-scale quadruple attack against central buildings in Kalamata.
The motives behind the attack on the statue of the Byzantine emperor
Athensvoice.gr reported that the members of “Team Epsilon” have published on their website violent diatribes against the Greek political system, “the Jews” and “the Zion-Nazis” (they suggest in their texts that even Nazism is a creation of Zionism), but also against the Orthodox Church and “the Free Masons”, while they glorify the “purity” and the “independence” of the Greek nation.
Nevertheless it remains weird that although other perpetrators for similar attacks with explosives in Banks or other public targets, with different political background are going to a trial with the new anti-terrorist bill which was introduced after the famous trial of the 17 November in 2001 , group «epsilon» is not considered as a terrorist organization.
